September 2023:
It’s another great month for the Taylor lab. We started our official Dolphins Challenge Cancer team early this year where we are raising money to support cancer research at Sylvester. August 2023:
It’s the start of a new academic year and the Taylor lab is already hitting the ground running. First welcome home from your internship Sana, you were missed! A HUGE congratulations goes to Dr. Taylor who was awarded the NIH R35 award to research how key protein transport mechanisms go awry in cancer. 👏 Another round of applause goes to Jacob who started medical school at the Miller School of Medicine this month! 👏 The Taylor lab also says a bittersweet farewell to Natalie who will be transitioning to a senior project coordinator position with Sylvester. Congrats Natalie, you will also be missed!
July 2023:
Happy 4th of July from the Taylor lab! Congratulations to Ray for officially passing his qualifying exam! 🥳 Another congratulations to our SURF student Mike for his fantastic summer research presentation. 👏 Skye published a review entitled “Non-Covalent Bruton’s Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors in the Treatment of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia” 📚. Check it out here. Congratulations to her and her co-author Meghan Thompson. Lastly, Dr. Taylor represented the lab well with his presentation at the Bermuda Global Summit on Hematologic Malignancies.👏Congrats to everyone!
December 2023:
Happy holidays from the Taylor lab! This month Dr. Taylor, Sana, Skye, Deborah, and David all traveled to San Diego ✈️ to attend the annual ASH conference.🩸Congratulations to Sana for her fantastic oral presentation and to Deborah and David for their great poster presentations. Sana and David also received abstract achievement awards for their work! 🏅 Check out pictures from our trip in our team gallery! We also want to congratulate Dr. Taylor for receiving both the Sylvester Inter-Programmatic Research Pilot Award as well as the Boost Intramural Funding Program award. 👏 Both of these awards will help support our continued basic and translational research efforts in 2024.

June 2023:
We kicked off the summer welcoming back Carla for her second summer rotation in the ASH graduate student scholar program. We also had two talented undergraduate students join us for the summer. Welcome to the lab David and Mike. 🙌 We want to say a huge congratulations to Skye who traveled all the way to Lugano, Switzerland to present her work at the International Conference of Malignant Lymphoma (ICML). ✈️ She received the 2023 Hemato travel award as well as an abstract scholar award. 🏅🏅 (Check out the article here). Lastly, this month was the launch of the annual Castaways against Cancer fundraising event. Continue fighting the fight!
May 2023:
As always, the Taylor lab had another busy month. Dr. Taylor and Sana traveled to New York to attend the 4th annual splicing workshop. ✈️ Dr. Taylor also traveled to Tampa to attend the 1st Annual Florida Hematopoiesis meeting. ✈️ Right after the meeting, Sana headed off to Indianapolis for the summer to begin a prestigious internship at Eli Lilly. Congrats Sana! 👏 Hurry back! Congratulations to Skye who was featured as a “Voice” in the University of Miami Medicine spring magazine. (Check out the article here). Last, we have to say a bittersweet goodbye to Jacob who will be beginning his medical school training at the University of Miami! 🩺 Congrats Jacob, you will be missed! 🤗

Let’s start with a huge round of applause to Dr. Taylor who was awarded the Department of Medicine Schally Research Award! 👏 Next, we want to welcome our newest research assistant Alex. Everyone is excited to have her join our team! This month Skye, Anya, Tulasi and Dr. Taylor traveled to Orlando to attend the annual AACR meeting. Great job to Anya and Tulasi on their presentations! March 2023:
This month we have a lot of congratulations to give out in the Taylor lab. First, congrats to Dr. Taylor on his publications this month. The first was an editorial on Trying to outRun‐DIC in KMT2Ar AML: It's tricky in Cancer. 📚 The second was in collaboration with Dr. Robert Briski. They published a review on the Treatment of Richter Transformation of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in the Modern Era in Cancers. 📚 In addition, he was also invited to speak at the 3rd Biennial Miami Leukemia Symposium. All of Dr. Taylor’s hard work was recognized as he was awarded the Research Mentor of the Year from the Department of Medicine for the Eugene Sayfrie, MD Annual Research Day. 👏 Congratulations to Skye, Sana, Tulasi, Vin, and Jacob on their presentations at this event. Next, congratulations to Sana on being selected to participate in a prestigious internship at Eli Lilly this summer (check out the article here). 🎉
February 2023:
Another busy month for the Taylor lab. Tulasi and Dr. Taylor have been working double time publishing not one, but two papers this month: 1. Protein biomarkers for response to XPO1 inhibition in hematologic malignancies in the Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine; 2. a review on Targeted Therapy Development in Acute Myeloid Leukemia in Biomedicines. 📚 Congratulations to all authors! We also want to welcome our newest graduate student Anya to the lab! 🤗 She jumped right into the swing of things joining Tulasi, Dr. Taylor and Maurizio at this year’s Dolphins Cancer Challenge 5K where our lab raised another $3,000 to help fight cancer. 🏃♀️🏃 Next, congratulations to Dr. Taylor for being an invited speaker at the University of Miami Division of Hematology Ground Rounds. 👏 Right after, Dr. Taylor attended the ASH Scientific Committee and Education Committee Joint Meeting in Washington DC. Lastly, we want to wish a very happy birthday to Maurizio and Dr. Taylor! 🧁
January 2023:
Happy new year from the Taylor lab. 🎉 We started this year with our annual holiday party and a fun white elephant gift exchange (fun photos in our gallery). We also kicked out the new year with a review on Therapy-selected clonal hematopoiesis and its role in myeloid neoplasms published in Leukemia Research. 📚 Congratulations Dr. Taylor and Jacob. 🥳 Lastly, a round of applause for Dr. Taylor being named the Translational Lead for Leukemia Service at Sylvester. 👏
December 2022:
Our lab kicked off December with the annual Sylvester Retreat where Tulasi and Skye both presented their work. Congratulations to Tulasi on receiving a top poster award for the Translation Clinical Oncology group.🏅 Next, Dr. Taylor and Skye went to the annual ASH (American Society of Hematology) conference where Skye had an Oral presentation and received and Abstract Achievement award.🏅 Happy holidays from the Taylor Lab. November 2022:
The Taylor lab was represented on both coasts this month. Tulasi participated as a judge in this year’s ABRCMS (Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists) conference in Anaheim California. Simultaneously, Skye attended and presented her research at the 5th Biennal Epigenetics and Cancer Symposium right here in Miami. Next, Dr. Taylor and Deborah published their paper in Leukemia Lymphoma entitled: Treatment patterns and outcomes of patients with CNS involvement of blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm. Congratulations to everyone! 📚 We also want to welcome Jennifer, an undergraduate research student, to our lab. Lastly, Happy Birthday to Skye. 🧁
October 2022:
Our lab had a busy October. To start we want to extend a warm welcome to our newest undergraduate student Miah to the lab. We want to congratulate Dr. Taylor for receiving a very generous gift of from Castaways Against Cancer to help support our continued research efforts. 🙌 We also want to congratulate Nina, Sana, and several others in the lab on their recent publication in Nature Precision Oncology entitled: Combination venetoclax and selinexor effective in relapsed refractory multiple myeloma with translocation t(11;14). 📚 Last but not least, congratulations to Carla, Daniel, Skye, and Jacob on the publication of their review in Medical Research Archives entitled: Burgeoning Data on BTK Inactivating Mutations in Lymphomagenesis and Therapeutic Resistance.📚
September 2022:
The Taylor lab said a bittersweet goodbye (for now) to our two post-baccalaureate trainees Gabriel and Alejandro. They both plan to start medical school in the upcoming Fall. This month in collaboration with Dr. Mikkael Sekeres, we published a very nice review in JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association) entitled: Diagnosis and Treatment of Myelodysplastic Syndromes: A Review. 📚 Lastly, the Taylor lab had another fun lab outing at Top Golf where we got to see some very impressive swings from our team and celebrate our recent accomplishments.🏌️
August 2022:
This month our lab welcomed two new PhD rotation students, Anya and Alyssa. We are excited to see what they accomplish during their PhDs. We also got to celebrate a huge achievement for Skye. This month she was awarded a prestigious F31 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award for Individual Predoctoral Fellows from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for her grant entitled: Investigating Resistance Mechanisms to Non-covalent Bruton's Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors and Therapeutic Approaches to Overcome Resistance for Patients with B-Cell Malignancies (check out the article here). 🥇 This grant will help support Skye’s stipend, tuition, conferences, and other educational opportunities. Congratulations Skye!
July 2022:
The Taylor lab came together this month for our first summer cookout where we learned that we have some very skilled chefs/grillmasters and talented cornhole players in the lab! We want to wish a very happy birthday to Chris this month. 🧁 Congratulations to Dr. Taylor for his review publication in Elsevier titled: Splicing dysregulation in human hematologic malignancies: beyond splicing mutations! 📚 The Taylor lab is also very excited to welcome Natalie, a very talented research assistant, to our team.
June 2022:
The Taylor lab is busy this summer with three new lab members visiting for the summer. Welcome to the team Jeffery, a very talented student visiting from Rutgers University as part of the summer of undergraduate research fellowship (SURF) program. Additionally, we are welcoming Carla, a gifted ASH graduate student for her first of a two-summer rotation all the way from Puerto Rico! Last, but certainly not least, we welcome Daniel, a bright and talented incoming MD/PHD student to rotate for the summer with our lab. We also want to congratulate our graduate student, Skye, on her excellent presentation at the Advances in Malignant Lymphomas conference where she earned a Scholar in Training award and her abstract scored in the top 4 abstracts submitted this year! 🏅
May 2022:
Wow what a month for the Taylor lab! First, a huge conGRADulations to Alejandro and Gabriel on graduating and earning their BSc from the University of Miami! 🧑🎓🧑🎓 We are excited to welcome them both back for a post-bacc while they prepare their medical school applications. The Taylor lab is thrilled to welcome our newest post-doctoral fellow, Vindhya, to the lab. She is already a wonderful addition to the team! In other news, our very own Dr. Taylor was invited as a speaker at the first international MDS conference where he presented an outstanding talk on XPO1 therapeutic manipulation in MDS.
April 2022:
April was a big month of presentations for the Taylor lab. We kicked off the month with the graduate and postdoctoral research symposium where Sana, Skye, and Tulasi presented their work. Next, congratulations to Sana and Tulasi for their presentations at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) annual meeting. 🎉 A huge round of applause goes out to Sana for passing her qualifying exam and becoming a PhD candidate! 👏 Lastly, the Taylor lab is excited to welcome our newest PhD student Chris to the lab.

This month we participated in the Department of Medicine’s research day where Skye and Tulasi presented their work to faculty and doctors at the University of Miami. A big congratulations goes out to Dr. Taylor for receiving a grant from the American Cancer Society to fund “Single-cell sequencing of understudied myeloid neoplasms”. 👏

The Taylor lab kicked off 2022 with a lot to celebrate. First, welcome to the lab Jacob we are excited to have you. Congratulations to Skye for passing her qualifying exam and officially becoming a PhD candidate. 👏 We are also celebrating the official acceptance of our paper on resistance mechanisms to non-covalent Bruton’s tyrosine kinase inhibitors to NEJM. Last but not least, we are thankful for the generous gift from the Berger Family Foundation to help support our research. 🙌 Looking forward to seeing what the rest of 2022 holds.

This month we give a heartfelt goodbye to our first member of the lab, Jumana. Jumana helped establish and set up the lab as well as training several students. She plans on traveling and possibly taking classes. She will be missed by everyone in the lab. 🤗
